2008-2009
Pine Grove Christian Academy Online 2008-2009
PGCA has been established for twelve years. The 2008-2009 is our second school year to
offer an online academy for home schooling and may be the perfect fit for your
family.
Now Enrolling
PGCA online
currently offers grades 3 through 12.
All students that are able to read are eligible to apply. Reading students may enroll in the online
school at any time during the year.
School
Year
Enrollments
are accepted throughout the school year.
The
Curriculum
PGCA uses the award-winning Switched-On-Schoolhouse,
a Christian computer-based electronic curriculum developed by Alpha Omega
Productions. This program is loaded on
to a laptop or desktop computer.
Students do their work on the computer each day and their work is uploaded
to our server in real-time mode via the Internet connection. Five core subjects are available: Bible,
English, math, science, and social studies, plus high electives. Students do class work at their own pace and
work may be done during traditional school-day hours or throughout the day and
on weekends. Pine Grove Christian
Academy Online School is available anywhere in the world where there is
Internet access.
Professional
Educational Guidance
Guidance is
provided by email through the SOS curriculum.
A qualified experienced teacher is on
staff during regular school hours to answer any questions you may have.
Maintenance
of Cumulative Records
PGCA staff organize and maintain cumulative records for each
student.
Providing Curriculum and Grading Support
The SOS program will be loaded on a student’s
computer either by bringing a laptop to our office or by a PGCA staff member
making a “house-call” to load the program on a desktop computer. In order to maintain integrity, all house
calls are made by appointment only and never made by one individual. As the student completes work it is saved on
our server (real-time mode), our teachers will then have access to all of the
student’s work from their computer stations. The teachers can review
short-answer questions, send back questions for additional input, and
communicate with the individual student.
Students may ask any questions and get help he or she needs for their
subjects.
Staff
Our staff works with your students monitoring their
progress, addressing student concerns and questions, and making comments on
student work. An email messaging system is built into the SOS curriculum
so students and teachers can easily communicate. Students can attach
questions or comments directly to specific problems. Similarly, teachers
leave notes for the students. Grades are
assigned through the online school program based on student work.
Foreign
Languages
French and
Spanish are available online.
Previous credits from other schools
Credit is
usually given for previously completed work taken through a public or private
high school.
High
School Diploma
Upon
completion of the high school program, the student will receive a diploma. All high school classes must be documented,
either by our staff or by a previous school.
We also may give credit for work experience.
High
School Transcript
Upon
graduation or transfer, a transcript will be provided. This transcript will be sent to public and
private schools or colleges.
Enrollment

3-12) for reading students.
This fee must be paid at time of enrollment and may be by check or cash.

Computer System Requirements
Pentium
III processor, Windows XP Pro (preferred), Windows 2000, Windows ME, or WIN 98
Second Edition Operating System, 256 MB of memory, 200 MB of Hard disk space,
800 x 600 or higher resolution monitor, 16 bit color, CD-ROM drive, and 10/100
MHz Ethernet network interface card.
Note: These are the minimum requirements; the Switched-On-School
curriculum will flow better with a faster processor and additional memory.
Internet Connections
A
high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable, or broadband) is required. When a student opens their school work a link
between their computer and our data server is completed. If a dial-up connection is your only option
it is still possible to use SOS but is not recommended. However, it will require a synchronization
step before beginning and when finishing work.
